Same Day Edits

A same day edit is much more than it's name implies. Although it is indeed an edit done on the same day, that is not where the story begins or ends. To create a same day edit, or SDE as it is known in the swanky circles of wedding film production, takes a whole lot of planning and forethought. It often begins even before the wedding day, with footage gathered at bridal showers, rehearsal dinners, and wedding day outings. Coverage continues throughout the day being filmed and then shuttled to our on sight editor who is transferring footage all day mixing and mastering it into an epic visual treat! And I say treat because that is indeed what it is! A treat because in the blur of their wedding day, the bride and groom cannot possibly process all of the beauty surrounding them so it is a treat to finally be sitting {or standing depending on the bride's shoes} at your wedding reception watching the highlights of their wedding day all caught on film and masterfully crafted into a 8 to 10 minute recap of their magical day! A SDE serves up a sweet rendition of all of those months of hard work, agonizing decisions and constant thoughts about your wedding day. It brings into focus the love that surrounds a couple on their wedding day from parents, to guests to new friends and old ones. A bride can see how impressive her big day really was. She can see how stunning she looked as she walked down the isle. All thanks to the hard work of a production team who has the knowledge, the creativity and all the wicked cool toys to make a SDE possible. The team at Studio 26 Weddings knows all about the pre-production it takes to create one of these visual feasts! Below is a side by side version of our bride and groom watching live as we reveal their SDE to them for the first time, live at their wedding reception. Tobe and Eric's Vineyard Wedding

Ryan and I had the honor of producing Tobe and Eric's wedding day film this weekend. The wedding and reception were held at the Orchard Hill Bed and Breakfast just outside of Kansas City. A short drive through the backhills of Missouri and we arrived at a quaint B&B set on a beautiful vista complete with its own vineyard. The event was exquisite with all of Tobe and Eric's friends and family chipping in to make the day an intimate affair. We so enjoyed being a part of the very special occassion.

In Eastern wisdom, it is said that a journey of 10,000 miles begins with a single step. When planning a wedding, the first step is setting the date, time and place. Everything hinges on these decisions, from the style of dress to the tone of the reception.

KEEP IN MIND
• If the wedding is during high season, from May through September, it is impossible to book too far in advance. • If economizing is a concern, select a weekday between October and February. • If the date coincides with a holiday weekend, expect higher rates from caterers and banquet managers. • For summer weddings, a Thursday celebration avoids disrupting everyone’s weekend. • The date is only as important as the guests’ availability.

Morning Weddings

They also inspire a special sense of celebration.
• An afternoon wedding affords the liberty of self-expression without the opulent trappings of some formal evening affairs.

Evening Weddings
• Beginning around 5 pm, evening weddings can ignite great drama, grand gestures and extraordinary extravagance. • Regardless of how religious the ceremony, the primary focus of most evening weddings is usually the reception. • Nighttime weddings afford many brides the perfect excuse for a lavish celebration. • Evening ceremonies also present a wonderful occasion for an intimate gathering. • They are considerably more costly than daytime affairs.

The Climate

To me, a wedding feels more epic, more powerful when it is held in the presence of water. Whether it's beside a gentle flowing river or lakeside on a lush golf course, water lends a spirit of power, serenity and majesty to the already exquisite scene. When in the vicinity of water, life seems more in perspective. Life seems more real, more raw and more beautiful. I love when bridal couples decide to be wed near the water. I look forward to filming the mystique and the exchanges between humanity and nature. A bride in all her femininiy, seems all them more demure when dipping her toe into the waves or walking along a rustic dock. Water adds to the already emotional exchange that unfolds during the sharing of vows. Perhaps my favorite are the gulfside nuptials. Being in the sand brings an element of simplicity to the day. With all the pretentiousness of a grand affair stripped away, all that we see is the true passion for each other....Ryan recently had the pleasure of filming Jason and Stephanie's wedding on Inlet Beach near Panama City, Florida. Visionary, Robyn Bomar of Mix, Mingle, GLOW created this simple yet extremely sophisticated beachside ceremony. Simple and sophisticated are two of my favorite words! The couple prepared for their elegant affair at Anna's Veranda, a charming beach house just across the street. Kate Crafton was brought in along with Ryan to capture the exquisite family affair. A video account of your wedding tells a unique story -- and you're going to want the style and technique to be in keeping with your tastes. Here are the key questions to ask when hiring your videographer:

What's the videographer's style -- cinematic, documentary, or a mix of both? (Then ask yourselves: Does this jibe with what we're going for?)

Studio 26 combines cinema and documentary to provide a compelling, fluid production.

Has the videographer done many weddings before? What's her storytelling approach when it comes to taping a wedding? (This clues you in to his experience and philosophy.) Ask to view samples of her recent work.

With over 400 wedding films produced, Ryan and Erin Bodie of Studio 26 are driven by the simple elegance of a bride on her wedding day.

Has the videographer won any awards? Is he a member of any national and local videography associations?

As a multi-international award winning company, Studio 26 also is a member of WEVA, the 4-Ever Group, Elegant Sarasota Weddings, and is a key note speaker at annual videographer's associations. Ryan also has produced training DVDs giving aspiring wedding videographers the inside scoop on wedding productions!

How does she coordinate with a wedding photographer? Has the videographer worked with your photographer before?

Has he ever shot a wedding at your ceremony or reception site? If so, can you see the tape?

How many other weddings is the videographer shooting on your wedding day or weekend? (Make sure there are no time constraints.)

We only focus on your wedding. No double bookings. This is our artform and requires our full attention.

Will the videographer you're speaking to be the one who will be shooting your wedding? If not, make sure you speak to whomever will actually shoot.

It is only Ryan and Erin and Britton, if you have someone else, it is not Studio 26!

What types of cameras, tapes, and microphones will the videographer use? How new is the equipment? Ask her to explain how certain effects are achieved and to outline the benefit of using certain technologies. You may not catch all the techno-speak, but it helps to have a sense of what's what.

All cameras are SONY HD, all microphones are Seinheiser. All of our equipment is insured and updated as needed. We also keep up to date with trade shows and publications, always acquiring editing software that gives us that creative edge. Our effects are reached through our filming techniques and our post production storehouse of effects and titling abilities.

Ask about editing equipment. Request an explanation of the technological process.

Film / video is loaded into our system, the prized footage is reviewed and the choice shots are cut into a rendition that is unique to your wedding and our vision from the day. Music tracks are selected along with specific audio clips from vows or toasts and laid under appropriate footage. We provide a boutiqe edit which is essentially a highlight of the entire day, a long form, which is exactly as it was documented. That way you have both.

How bright a light do they use? (If shooting requires the room lights to be on all evening, much of the romance and ambience of your event may be lost.)

We work in low light situations regularly, however, it does become necessary to use a bit of on camera lighting, they are very low wattage however give off just enough light to capture what we need. If you do not have the proper exposure, you will be very unhappy with the dark, grainy outcome. Most times, we can bounce and reflect light as needed without you even being aware of it.

Will a backup camera be on hand for the event?

We generally carry anywhere from 2-3 extras! Failing you is not an option here!

How does the videographer charge for services? Are there packages? Request a price list.

We offer many packages and a flexible payment plan, we accept credit cards (AX, VS, MC and Disc) All prices (accept travel fees) are listed on our website. A $500 deposit is required up front to reserve the date, then payments can be worked out until 3 months post ceremony.

Upon receiving their wedding DVD, our couples are eager for their walk down memory lane. Immediately upon popping in their DVD they are greeted with a warm image of themselves from their special day.
